The social media landscape is a very different terrain to the path we were all treading 2/3 years ago, where posting a photo a few times a week was enough to keep basic engagement ticking over. But now... it feels like there are a lot more hills to climb and the effort required to climb them consistently is really tough - because creating impactful reels and carousel posts and regular stories has started to feel like a never ending job, but it's become a non-negotiable if you want to grow your following. So here are 10 ideas to spark inspiration and hopefully ease your tired feet, so you can keep posting the good stuff and keep reaching those social media engagement peaks!

1. CREATE A BTS OF YOUR DAY (BEHIND THE SCENES)

This is an easy one. Filming 3-5 second clips of your day and pulling them together to give insight into the BTS of your business is always a winner winner chicken dinner. Make sure you get plenty of you in the shots, because always remember people want to see you!! Add a voice over giving insight into what you are doing in each clip to add impact.

2. THIS IS MY WORKING SPACE

You spend most days working from here and it might not seem that interesting to you, but the world of social media is nosy and they want to know what flowers are on your desk, which notepad you love to write in, which are your comfiest leggings to wear for a big laptop day and which colour you painted your home office wall. And if none of this applies to your work space, consider the details of where you do work and what people might find interesting and then make a short reel giving us all the juicy details.

3. THIS IS WHAT WORKING WITH ME LOOKS LIKE

This is a great one for educating your ideal client on what working with you is going to look like. I'd suggest filming short timelapses and videos of each stage of the process and collaborating them into a reel, with a voice over explanation. Check out my version here.

4. SOMETHING YOU FEEL REALLY PROUD OF

There are loads of great templates and audio options to accompany this one. Perhaps you won an award and you have footage of the moment, perhaps your website went live and you make a screen recording of it, perhaps you worked with a dream client and have a photo or video of you guys together, perhaps you reached your sales goal and you want to show the product and figures in a short video snippet. Whatever it is - make a 8-10 second reel and brag about it!! Always remember... modest entrepreneurs get left behind!!!

5. WHEN I'M NOT RUNNING (name of business)... I'M.... (something you do for you)

If you run a serviced based business, the likelihood is that people book you because they know, like and trust you - and that means there needs to be a human connection. For example I don't book a yoga class based on whether the teacher can do a headstand or not, I choose to go to their class because I feel comfortable, safe and welcome in their sessions. If people have a little bit of insight into who you are as a human being rather than just the business, they are going to connect on a deeper level and will be more likely to want to work with you. So create short little snippets of footage, showing you being 'you' and collaborate it into a reel, with a bit more insight in the caption, finishing off with asking your followers about them?

Eg. When I'm not running KL CREATIVE Photography...I'm playing netball, drinking coffee with my friends, singing on cruise ships, hiking with my husband or planning our next travel adventure. What do you like to do when you aren't running your biz?

6. CONTROVERSIAL OPINION BUT...(give opinion)

A simple video with a voice recording and captions over the top, which give a controversial opinion to spark debate and interaction with your ideal potential clients and watch the engagement soar!

7. "IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING WITH...(name clients struggle)... I CAN HELP YOU."

Sometimes you just need to spell it out - This is what you need help with >>> And this is how I can help/fix that for you.

Literally as simple as that and provide a short video clip of you fixing the problem for a previous client, as evidence. Eg. You are a stylist - so you film a short clip of you working with a previous client and follow it with a clip where they are dressed in an amazing outfit, looking fabulous and top it off with a testimonial in the caption or as a voice recording. the final cherry is adding a strong Call to Action, so everyone knows exactly how they can get in touch and work with you!

8. USE A TRENDING REEL OR TEMPLATE REEL

If you see a reel and love it's format or the audio, then you can use it as a template and make your own. It means half the job is done for you - you only have to decide which bits of your own content you want to use.

9. HERE ARE 3 WAYS YOU CAN WORK WITH ME...

Footage of each of your offerings - short 3-8 second clips - timelapses, regular video, high quality images of you 'doing your thing' and add a voice over about each one. Follow it up with more detail in the caption and a definite Call to Action.

10. POV (POINT OF VIEW)

This one actually annoys me because most the time they don't seem to make much sense as a 'POV' but it basically gives you free-reign to share anything and everything you feel you want to surrounding your work and industry. The video content that accompanies it, might be related to your POV or it might just be a totally random clip of you - walking, drinking coffee, working with a client, literally anything... but accompany it with a voice over and a caption... and it will get engagement!

If you've enjoyed these ideas and found them useful please tag me in your reels in the coming weeks and I will reshare!!
