10 Reasons To Have A Family Portrait Session Before Christmas 2020!
To say that 2020 was not the year we had expected would be an understatement. It has brought upon significant changes to the way we live, work, socialise, spend our spare time and for many of us, has drastically changed our lives.
We are, however, strong independent women who can tackle almost anything and of course, when faced with a crisis… we bake banana bread!
Whether it’s been home improvements, wardrobe declutters, fitness regimes or working your way through the entirety of Netflix, it’s safe to say that within the madness of 2020 and this world we call home, there has been many positive things to take from it.
For me, this year has meant spending more time with my family. My little boy Freddie has taken on the biggest change in 2020. He has gone from babbling baby to boisterous toddler and we have been fortunate enough to have a front row seat to watch it all happen (meltdowns and all!) I laugh, as the meltdowns have mostly been mine! But that aside, I wouldn’t have changed it for the world and it’s made me more aware that these precious moments with our families are so important and so quick to pass that we should make the most of capturing them whenever possible!
Therefore, here are my 10 reasons why you should plan a Family Portrait Shoot before Christmas 2020!
1. Safety first!
With many professional photo shoots, you are usually expected to either travel to a location or studio which of course this year, is not as straight forward to manage. The beauty of these photo shoots is that the photographer comes to you! Whether you decide to travel a little way or have the photo shoot at home with a Doorstep Family Portrait, the decision is yours and your safety and happiness comes first.`
2. Savours the moment in time…
We’re always rushing about, catching a bus, nipping to the shops or, obviously baking banana bread… that we forget to slow down and really appreciate the things that matter in that moment. Having a family photo shoot is the perfect way to spend a day with your loved ones and really cherish the time you have together. It’s a moment in time that like every moment, will pass, but with the magic of photography, it can be savoured for you, your friends and family for an eternity.
3. It’s FUN and something nice to do together…
2020 hasn’t allowed us to have as many of the fun family days that we all love and for this reason, what better way to enjoy some quality time together. You can pick a beautiful location, in or out, somewhere new or somewhere old and plan your day around it. A walk, a pub lunch or a quick cup of coffee is the perfect way to round up the day following your shoot.
4. I’m ready for my close up
As a parent, we spend most of our days snapping the glorious moments of our little ones, asleep, awake, crying, laughing, in or out, shaking it all about! That we never actually capture many moments with us in the shot. Unless it’s obviously one taken by the little darling which always ends up being an up to nose shot or one with many chins! A professional photo shoot means that YOU get to be centre stage once again, along with your family and loved ones. The pressure will be taken off of you to get the shot when ‘he’s doing it, he’s doing it’! You can simply sit back (or most likely stand) relax, and smile, knowing that at the end, you’ll be left with beautiful images that you haven’t had to worry about taking and that haven’t clogged up your phone storage that little bit more.
5. 2020 – A year that will go down in history
For generations to come, 2020 will be a year that goes down in history and for that reason, it would be the perfect way to turn what has been a very upsetting time for all, into a positive memory for you and your loved ones.
6. Home edit
As already mentioned, many of us have channelled our inner Carol Smillie and gone full blown changing rooms on our homes during the lockdown proportion of the year and for those who could actually order paint… congratulations to you! Every freshly painted wall, every newly build shelf and every freshly polished mantle piece deserves beautiful photographs so there is no better time to get a refreshed set of family portraits, ready for a cosy winter at home with your loved ones.
7. It’s the perfect family Christmas card!
Everybody loves receiving Christmas cards, especially those that are personalised to you. Why not take some festive props along with you (I’m thinking hats, beards, antlers, maybe even a sleigh if you can fit in in your backpack...!) and dedicate a few shots to your family Christmas card? Once received you can decide on the size of the print or even just slot a 6x4 image into a card as an early Christmas present that everyone will love.
8. You’ve got mail!
For many families, sending an annual update to loved ones near and far is a tradition, often carried out at Christmas time. It would be a lovely option to have a selection of professionally shot and edited images at your disposal to pad these updates out and at the same time, give you something fun and happy to talk about. Surely it beats sending more photos of that banana bread…
9. Make your own 2021 wall calendar
Whether it’s for a gift for others or a gift from you to you, this is the perfect way to add a bit of personalisation to your wall calendar. You could plan your photoshoot accordingly to represent the different seasons of the year or simply have 12 beautiful images dedicated to each month. It’s then up to you to get crafting!
10. On the 10th day of Christmas my true love gave to me… a pre-paid photoshoot for you and your loved ones!
Stuck for ideas for that perfect gift? Why not give the gift of photography! If you don’t have time to partake in a photoshoot in December or the madness of 2020 has simply wiped you out and you’re ready for Christmas films and mince pies then never fear, you can pre-buy a session to be carried out in 2021, at a time a place mutually convenient for all. Whether it’s for you or for friends and family, this a gift guaranteed to make them smile and an amazing experience to look forward to in the new year.
For now, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
